Get involved…be a Bear Pit Theatre Company Volunteer:

As a volunteer-run community theatre, we welcome anyone with some time and enthusiasm to spare. No experience is necessary and you can get involved in any aspect of our theatre.

The Bear Pit can offer exciting possibilities to share skills and experiences within a dynamic and ambitious arts organisation. We are always looking for volunteers to help with the work we do, whether your interest is in acting, sound, lighting, set design, set construction, marketing and promotion, backstage or front of house.

On Stage

Whether you’re a seasoned actor, or just want to try something new, there are opportunities for you on our stage in a range of productions. Find out more and how to audition.

Front of House

Our Front of House team plays an important role in  running our theatre and welcoming our audience during each performance.

The team focuses on the public areas of our productions and the overall operation of the theatre. We’re always looking for people to help out with any of these areas – training will be provided if required.

If you are interested in finding out more, then contact us via the form.

Box Office

Our Box Office team are usually the first point of contact for our customers  booking tickets at our venue. Before each performance, the Box Office team also welcome our customers when they come to collect their tickets.

House Managing

Before and during each performance, the House Manager coordinates with the Stage Manager to ensure that our audiences have an enjoyable time with us. You’ll generally encounter our House Manager as you enter the auditorium where they’ll check your tickets and direct you to your seats.

House Managers play an important role in ensuring the safety of our audience and front-of-house teams in the theatre.

Cafe Bar

The Cafe Bar is almost always open when the theatre is open – whether during rehearsals or performances. Our Bar Manager is supported by a team of Bar Staff but additional helpers are always welcome..

Backstage

Our backstage team work hard behind the scenes both between and during productions. We’re always looking for people to help out with any of these areas – training will be provided if required.

If you are interested in finding out more, then contact us via the form.

Stage Management/Stage Crew

The Stage Management team ensure that each production runs smoothly coordinating the various backstage teams both before and during each performance. Every time you see a curtain move, or a piece of scenery appear/disappear from stage, the stage management team will be involved.

Lighting/Sound

Whether a full scale musical or a short one act play, the technical department is involved with every show and event held at the theatre. The team oversees everything from video projection to sound effects, stage lighting to pyrotechnics.

Set Design, Construction & Painting

Given the wide range of plays we produce, our Stage team do an amazing job creating “simple” rooms, cruise liners, desert islands, World War 1 trenches, and anything in between.

Prompting

The Prompts play an important role during the rehearsal process helping the actors get the lines permanently lodged ready for opening night.

Props

Our Props team collect together the various objects, furniture and decorations that dress the set. Whether it’s a single silver teaspoon, or an entire (working) 1950s kitchen, the Props team has a wide-ranging collection available for use in our own productions, and also for hire. If it’s not in our prop collection, the team is able to make, hire or buy the items a show needs.

Wardrobe

Our Wardrobe team work closely with the Director and production team to make sure that all of the actors are appropriately attired.

Theatre Maintenance

There are a myriad of jobs that our theatre needs and, where possible, we do fix or improve the theatre ourselves – a job that our maintenance team oversees.

Benefits:

  • Enhance your CV
  • Meet like-minded people
  • Give something back to the community
  • Enjoy the experience
