Synopsis

Cinema Screening

Elf (2003) is directed by Jon Favreau. A heart-warming and hilariously offbeat Christmas comedy. Starring Will Ferrell as Buddy, a human who was accidentally transported to the North Pole as a baby and raised by Santa’s elves.

As Buddy grows up, his human size and clumsiness make it clear he doesn’t quite fit in. When he learns the truth about his origins, he sets off on a journey to New York City. He wishes to find his biological father, Walter Hobbs (James Caan). Hobbs is a cynical children’s book publisher who’s firmly on Santa’s naughty list.

Buddy’s wide-eyed innocence and elfish enthusiasm clash spectacularly with the hustle and scepticism of city life. He gets a job at a department store, falls for a jaded employee named Jovie (Zooey Deschanel), and tries to win over his reluctant father and half-brother. But when Santa’s sleigh crashes in Central Park due to a lack of Christmas spirit, it’s up to Buddy to save the day and remind everyone of the magic of the season.

With its blend of slapstick comedy, genuine warmth, and festive cheer, Elf (2003) has become a modern holiday classic.
