A Bear Pit Theatre Company Production

@ The Bear Pit Theatre - Stratford-upon-Avon

Synopsis

Judy and Johnny seem to have perfected the art of living the dream, the 1950s dream, that is. Their home is a pastel‑coloured shrine to vintage domestic bliss, complete with immaculate dresses, homemade cakes, and a strict devotion to traditional roles.

Judy has left the modern workplace behind to become the ideal housewife, while Johnny heads out each day as the family breadwinner.
But beneath the polished surfaces and retro charm, cracks begin to show. The couple’s finances are strained, Johnny’s career is faltering, and Judy’s idealised vision of the past starts to collide with the realities of the present. As friends and family question their choices, the pair must confront what their nostalgic fantasy is really costing them, and whether the life they’ve built is liberating or quietly suffocating.

Witty, sharp, and emotionally astute, Home, I’m Darling explores the seductive pull of nostalgia, the pressures of perfection, and the complexities of choosing your own version of happiness in a world that keeps moving forward.
