A British satirical drama with surreal elements. This film focusses on the issues bubbling beneath the surface of a highly disciplined public school. It graphically illustrates what could happen if untrained people are given power and the rebellion ensues.

The film prompts viewers to discern between what is real and what is fantasy, with jarring transitions from colour to black and white for some segments. Regardless of interpretation, “If…” still makes a big impact after 50 years and remains relevant today.

In addition to established British actors such as Arthur Lowe, Peter Jeffery, and Graham Crowden, the film launched the acting careers of Malcolm McDowell, Richard Warwick and David Wood.
