The Thrill of Love

A Second Thoughts Drama Group Production
A play by Amanda Whittington and directed by Brian Emeney
The Story of Ruth Ellis The facts are not in dispute. On 11 April 1955, Ruth Ellis shot and murdered her lover David Blakely outside a Hampstead pub. She was found guilty and famously – and infamously – became the last woman to be hanged in Britain. But why was she so keen to admit her guilt and not offer any defence? And why did she refuse to name, until it was too late, the person who gave her the loaded gun? This wonderful play, first produced at the Young Vic in 2013, has all the ingredients of film-noir of the 1940’s.
