Excess Baggage

Each of us carries some excess baggage every day…experiences, memories and plans.

What is hidden in the suitcase of the protagonist of the monodrama, who returns to Poland after thirty years of emigration? It turns out to be as capacious as a heart, which stores the most beautiful treasures of a carefree childhood.

The protagonist takes out of the suitcase various props from which her past is made and, step by step, she reveals her story, made up of longing for loved ones and refusal to abandon the old, safe world. The confrontation of memories with reality and an attempt to find your place in the world – is it still possible to
find the home where our childhood was left after thirty years?

Performed by Karolina Milkowka-Prorok, directed by Rafal Mateusz and music by Pawel Paluch, Excess Baggage talks about neighbours, emmigration and life.

Każdy z nas dźwiga codziennie jakiś „nadbagaż”… – doświadczeń, przeżyć, wspomnień i planów. Co kryje w sobie walizka bohaterki monodramu, która po trzydziestu latach emigracji wraca do Polski? Okazuje się, że jest tak pojemna, jak serce, przechowujące najpiękniejsze skarby beztroskiego dzieciństwa. Bohaterka wyciąga z walizki różne rekwizyty, z których zbudowana jest jej przeszłość, i krok po kroku odkrywa przed widzami swoją historię, złożoną z tęsknoty za bliskimi i niezgody na porzucenie starego, bezpiecznego świata. Konfrontacja wspomnień z rzeczywistością oraz próba znalezienia swojego miejsca na świecie – czy po trzydziestu latach można jeszcze odnaleźć dom, w którym zostało nasze dzieciństwo?

W wykonaniu Karoliny Milkówki-Prorok w reżyserii Rafała Mateusza z muzyką Pawła Palucha Nadbagaż opowiada o sąsiadach, emigracji i życiu.
