Warwickshire based band Meet On The Ledge have been delighting audiences across the UK and Europe since their formation in 1992, when guitarist / vocalists Ron Holmes and Allen Maslen formed a folksy duo as a side project from the rock band they were in together.
Since then MOTL has played from Penzance to Poland, including many pestigious venues and festivals including Cropredy Festival, Lodz International Festival, and their own tenth birthday party gig at Birmingham Symphony Hall.
Twenty-nine years and six studio albums later, MOTL are still going strong, these days as a four-piece, playing a heady mix of uplifting original numbers and supercharged arrangements of ancient traditional British folk songs.
Critics have found it challenging to pinpoint the band’s style, with descriptions ranging from “a roller coaster of emotion” and “the world’s first stadium folk band”, to “Big Country in a bar brawl with Thin Lizzy.”
MOTL have their sensitive side too, and their original lifeboat epic “The Mary Stanford of Rye” has become something of a folk standard, with many artists across the globe covering the song – most recently renowned American folk duo William Pint and Felicia Dale.
These concerts sell out quickly, and due to demand we now have MOTL over two nights. The Bear Pit Theatre is delighted to welcome MOTL back for their first post-lockdown theatre dates.
All seats are £12.
